First thrift outing this past week.

First trip out this past week yielded a few fun items to list on my store. I found a set of six vintage glasses featuring River Boats.

In a small package full of just blah stuff I found these three inch little plates. Ideal for the chemistry nerd in some one's life. They feature test tubes, scales and jars. I need to research a little more.

I also found these cotton curtains and valences. Always looking for cotton fabric. I'm not sure if I'll sew with these or list them. Plenty of time to decide.

The John Deere sheet is a twin size and I may sell it whole or cut it for fabric and the yellow and green sheet is full size and I have bright ideas for this. Too many decisions for today.

I did get out one more time this past week and found a great selection of items. I have them all cleaned up and ready to photograph and will show them off later this week. I would love to be able to post more than one time each week just to keep things exciting, but I need to work too. I have the task of making Chili Relish this week also. Not because I need to, but because I am running out and want more and I need to possibly trade some for more Venison. Thank goodness this is one of my easier to make relishes. Until next post I hope everyone has a wonderful week and please feel free to stop by my on line stores.

Bartered Goodies

With canning season well underway and so many people canning and making different items I have opened up to some bartering. It's said that the tax man doesn't like this kind of doings, but most of us are just trying to survive and enjoy the home made goodies.
In exchange for two cases of home made sweet relish I received two packages of home crafted venison sausages, we've eaten almost all of the other package, and two packages of ground venison. Along with the venison came a quart, yes a quart, of home made local maple syrup. I can't wait to make breakfast sausage out of the ground venison and enjoy a breakfast of waffles and home made syrup with home made sausage patties.
Then there's Paul's grape jelly. Paul a co-worker grows his own grapes. A small back yard garden keeps him busy. He made raisins and has a years supply, but wanted to try his hand at jelly. I kept encouraging him to try. I traded him some goodies for fresh grapes and grape jelly. I feel like it's Christmas. Items I enjoy and don't get myself are in my kitchen for future use.
I am going to make salsa and can it this weekend. With tomatoes at their peek I can't wait to fill the pantry for a long winter of great treats.

Using the bounty. Pepper and green tomato relish.

Pepper and green tomato relish.

Small kitchen but it worked.

Great food for the upcoming year.

Found this recipe for pepper and green tomatoes in a book written by Mary Jane Butters. It was different from my sweet relish recipe. It has green peppers, jalapeno peppers, onions and green tomatoes along with apple cider vinegar and sugar. Prepare, cook and can and it's done. I can't wait until the flavors marry and I can use this and cook with it. You can follow Mary Jane Butters at maryjanesfarm.com. She has her farm in Moscow Idaho and publishes a magazine every two months that I wait for intensely for news from the farm. I have more that I will be canning this summer. I have also arranged a barter system and will be trading for things like maple syrup and venison. I have learned that I can have the good stuff even though I'm not able to get it all myself.
