Thrift finds

So on our two day adventure we found so much that I've had to split it into two posts. Today I am remembering the fun.

We found a vintage 1957 Betty Crocker cook book and it has most of the recipes that I've been using for many years. It's wasn't in top notch condition, but neither are the old copies I've been using. We found a book on how to be happy. Can't wait to see what it says. There was a Care Bear good luck glass, a Flintstones Barney glass, a new in package serrated vegetable cutter and a package of baby yarn so I can knit more socks. I took a chance on the yellow plastic picnic utensils. I have my plastic utensils in recycled drink mix containers. I got tired of them being all over the place.

I found myself tossing the containers back and forth to access other items on the shelf or knocking them over because they were in the way and when I needed to take along some utensils  they were dusty and needed washing or were just all over the place. Well, this fun little find worked. I have a container for spoons, forks, knives and napkins. Just pick it up and go or keep it in the car. True recycling.

We found five vintage Strawberry Shortcake place mats that need binding and a good soaking.

There was a wonderful white basket and a great selection of linens.

Along with linens were a couple of blouses to wear to work. Thrift economics at it's finest.

My daughter found this complete set of paperback books. There are eight and it is the Anne of Green Gables series.

She also has a thing lately for vintage spice racks. We found three different styles and sizes on this past trip. I know when she has her own home she will probably spray paint some to match her decor and put her herb oils on. She will have an awesome collection because there are probably eight or more that we have packed or have hanging. All in all it was a wonderful weekend and along with all our thrift finds we made lots of memories with friends and family and found some treasures for our future.

Thrift finds.

This is going to be the shortest thrift post I probably will ever do. We were taking plastic bottles to a bottle return facility and just half a block down the road was an antique mall. We enjoy this venue, but hadn't visited in a while and we decided since we were that close we'd get some exercise and walk around for a bit. So much beauty. We walked and looked and got ideas and only found three items, but good items to us.

Well here it is. Our big shopping trip. The skein of baby blue yarn was $3 dollars, but it is a vintage seven ounce skein which I'm sure will produce three pairs of knitted socks. I may have to make one pair with a white cuff, but that's okay by me. The vintage salt and pepper shakers are plastic and so adorable. We just couldn't resist. The pink Pyrex pie plate is in mint condition and my daughter's first piece of pink. The price of this item was $3.75 because the booth we got it from was having a sale. Original price was $3.99. She's added it to her collection. That's what a walk through an antique mall yielded. Thank you for stopping by for a visit and we hope all of you finds as fun as ours.

Finished or not at The Craft Zone.

The Craft Zone is just that. A place where we can work on our love of textile crafts. All kinds of textile crafts. It has merged into a blog or two, a store or two and many, many friends. There are so many people that finish every project or nearly every project. My eldest daughter finishes projects. Here are two pillows she finished this weekend in between studying. Yes she works full time and carries a full time college schedule and manages to finish sewing projects. Of course they only needed the inserts and the closing stitched, but she finished them.

Her listing manager got them on her shop today and they can both be found at poetcharms.etsy.com.
I on the other hand had several plans for this piece of Waverly fabric but never started and therefore never finished. So this morning it also got listed as commercial fabric at poetcharms.etsy.com.

I'd like to finish some knitting projects. One is started, but could anyone finish a project if their knitting basket looked like this?

What a mess. Really. There is a sweater in that mess that is just about all done. I believe there may be just a few inches to go to finish the sleeves. Then just block it, sew it together and knit the neckline and front edges, but could I work with that mess? Could I even find the directions to finish it in that mess? This morning was the end. It had to get cleaned. I got to it and threw out endless pieces of paper that I used to count. I cleaned my late aunts knitting bag and put it in the wash, sorted out at least 20 extra pairs of knitting needles to donate, organized every little marker, pad of paper, textile tool and yarn. The final result is a clean knitting basket that I can now use. Doesn't it look better?

And here are the knitting needles to be donated. I think I had a few too many.

So spring cleaning has begun here and it feels good. Maybe I'll have that sweater finished by next fall when cooler weather comes back. I know I won't have it finished for the cold we have now.
