Wet and chilly day, but we still went thrift shopping.

Here on the southern shore of lake Ontario it's still a bit cool. As a matter of fact we had frost warnings overnight. We are still two to three weeks from outdoor planting, but the urge is there to do it early. I think we'll go shopping while we wait for warmth enough to garden.

Our search this past weekend found a couple of vintage sheets. My daughter will never pass up any sheet that is aqua and green. Those are her colors. I personally love the bright yellow poppy sheet.

We found some Raggedy Anne and Andy fabric that was reclaimed from curtains. The vintage 1972 linen towel is destined to be a pillow. That was the year my daughter was born and this one was truly seventies. I also found a package of vintage "seconds" clothespins and some strawberry metal trays still in the package that were sold through F.W. Woolworth Co.

We will never again leave behind wooden pant hangers. The last bunch we listed on the store and they sold within days. If you see them at the right price get them.

A last second find was this bright sun dress. The red on the sides are large pockets. First thought was to alter it into an apron, but we may just sell it as is. It has the elastic bodice and may have had straps, but they can be put back on without a lot of work.

We found a bundle of fabrics for $1 and there are quite a few pieces we will use. The two yellow glass pieces are part of a lazy Susan that were just to bright yellow to leave behind. Set around a cheese board filled with crackers and the party is ready. The tea candles we'll use while sitting out evenings this summer and the bag of candles we got for a project we have been working on. We could have had two bags, but one was marked $1.98 and the other was marked $4.98. Couldn't figure out why the difference in price, but I bet you can guess which one was left behind.

Just a couple weeks ago I posted about mini muffin tins and how I wanted a couple. Yes I found them then, but this weekend at the flea market I found two more and they were two for 25 cents. Yes that's right and the can opener and Tupperware measuring spoons were also 25 cents. The bread pan was on the list of things I'm looking for. When I downsized I got rid of all my baking pans for sizes that fit in my toaster oven. Now I want to bake more bread and have to replace the pans. One down, one to go. Canning jars will always come home as long as they are less than $1. I use them with my food saver for storage along with my  canning. Not all our finds are for the stores. There are a lot of items we look for to furnish our home and take care of ourselves. It's the way to do it. We call it shopping green.

2014 is off to a great start.

It seems that this first week of 2014 has flown by already. We've been out thrifting once so far because we've been trying to "finish" a few projects that got put on hold because we became ill during the holidays. May have been the flu, but we're getting better. Some of the items we found were different for us.

The first different item was a toy wagon. A small pull toy that may have stored blocks but for $3.99 it has great up cycle potential and you can't even purchase the casters or wood for that price. Then there were two "nalgene" water bottles. To purchase new would be well over $10 each and these were only $1.99 each. I'm constantly loosing my good water bottles, although I do have Cuppow lids, but these were 32 ounce size so they quickly went into the cart. After looking twice at them I realized that one was an emergency preparedness kit and the other was a heat stress kit. Now, I don't know how old these are, but I will open them and check the expiration dates on the items enclosed and dispose of them if needed. I guess the items enclosed was a bonus. Checking on line these kits are not sold so it was probably a promotional item. Bandages can go in my first aid kit easily. Continuing on

we found a NIP Care Bear Cousins twin size sheet set. A fun find was a vintage wooden made in Holland puzzle and then of course two made in Japan coffee mugs. And then there were linens.

Bright orange floral pillow cases, vintage fruit print table clothes and pink and orange floral sheets. These are the fun things because we just love fabric.

The bright yellow sheet set can make any wind chill factor feel better. The pink, white and black fabric are home made cafe curtains with rings and could fancy up any vintage kitchen and who can pass up indoor, outdoor fabric for the right price. Well that's what we found on our first trip of the new year. We were happy. Really can't wait to see what some of the fabric and vintage sheets become. Happy New Year everyone. Stop by the stores and see what's new. I'll be stopping by to visit you too.

Simple but good thrift finds.

Very relaxed thrift adventure.

The Pyrex finds were quite a story this week. For the longest time we have been searching for the large aqua Cinderella bowl to complete a set. After a few years of searching with no luck one was purchased for a reasonable price on an on line store. One week after it's arrival and the excitement of having a complete set we wandered out for a donation drop and took a chance at walking through the store just to look. To our shock there she was, sitting on the top shelf, looking tired and for 1/5 the cost of the one purchased on line. Now we have two and can retire some "plastic" functional large bowls and enjoy the new Pyrex. The orange casserole bowl we will be adding to our collection and using it for decoration to add more color to our living space. We found two teal Fire King bowls, another made in Japan Owl vase, a Pyrex refrigerator bowl with a cover, a Vera scarf plus others and a Sesame Street twin sheet. Not a bad thrift haul. We did however leave some Pyrex behind that was in great shape, but the prices are getting higher on some items and it makes it quite easy to leave them behind. That plus the fact that storage space is a commodity these days leaves little choice but to be picky.

We also found this lovely Kokeshi doll. It is large and a traditional doll. The joke was that I could use it as a bat if any one broke in. Nice thought offspring. It is made from a solid piece of wood, not rare, but just plain fun.

We also found this amazing stoneware Norwegian dish. It is quite heavy with a blue and green floral print. I am going to have to research this. We hadn't seen bowls of this nature with the built in handles, but we are still new to a lot of vintage items. So all in all it was a great week. Very relaxing and peaceful. We hope everyone has had a great week too. Stop by and visit our stores and see what happening. Best wishes to all.

May already?

If I were to make a dumb statement like May already, when did that happen while my daughter was home she would reply with some remark like "this morning", so I'll say it in my blog. When did that happen? I'm still working on some April items that I found thrifting for my store.

Recently listed is this 5x7 tray, made in Japan that originally was going to hang on the wall. It wasn't quite the shade of blue we like so it is listed on the store.

A new Vera Bradley coin purse without the ribbon pulls. Some one added a lobster clip and chain so that's how it's listed.

Two large linen towels that were just too realistic to pass up. I thought about framing the fish towel for wall art, but I listed it instead.

This is a set of 100% cotton nautical themed 20 inch napkins. These were made in India.

Who can resist a vintage Napco smiley face planter? I have an original McCoy cookie jar that was given to me for my daughters first Christmas. She now has it and stores cookie cutters in it.

Last for this listing is my first ever piece of pink Pyrex. All of these items are listed on butterflyplace.etsy.com and butterflyplace.storenvy.com.
I can't believe that I have more items that I've found and listed for April that I haven't shared, but it is coming. Have a wonderful week everyone.

Mid week happenings.

What a busy week I am having and this coming weekend is going to be even busier. I have plans to spend a few days on the hunt. We'll probably do a few thrift stores, estate sales and maybe a church sale or two. Spring fever has set in and the need to get out has too.

I found a few new finds that have proven to be good ones. My favorite is a 1920's Pyrex bean pot.

The most whimsical item is a turtle bank made in Japan. He is so cute and I had a hard time listing him on the store.

I found vintage Christmas fabric, African animal napkin rings, Garfield mugs and more Pyrex bowls. There's more, but for now this is what I have ready and I am busy listing them on the stores. Please stop by and visit butterflyplace.etsy.com and butterflyplace.storenvy.com .

Treasure Hunting

It wasn't a super week for finds until this past weekend. Believe it or not I got out three times this week to thrift. I won't be able to include those items in this post because I am still cleaning and prepping them. I got out more because my daughter needed items for a collage class she's taking to finish her degree. She needed weird things. I found the larger Pyrex bowl with the wrong cover, but I cleaned it up and added it to the smaller bowl on butterflyplace.etsy.com. One of those item in which you find one and go back a few days or weeks later and find more. It's been happening a lot lately. I feel lucky in that way.

I found a couple of ribbed refrigerator dish covers number 503c. They are not perfect, but for the price some one may need them and I cleaned them and listed them.

This Vera Bradley bag was waiting for me to clean and prepare to be re loved. It is a retired Pink Pansy Molly bag which I listed on butterflyplace.storenvy.com.

I really couldn't pass up this darling divided dish. I fell in love with the pattern and could see it being used for dainty finger foods on a summer deck setting. I thought it was flowers by a fence.

I don't remember this golden book from my son's era, lol, or my grandson's younger years, but when I saw it I just fell in love with the graphics. It is now on the shelf above my desk because I have so few golden books I read to them. It's a keeper for me.

Right now I have well over two dozen items sitting on my table ready to be photographed. I can't wait to show you all the treasures from my hunt. I am truly blessed with finding wonderful vintage items to resell on my stores. I wish I could keep more for myself, but that's just the way it is. Until later blog friends. Have a wonderful week.
